Kakaban Jellyfish Lake
Kakaban Island, Derawan, Kalimantan Timur, Indonesia
A brackish marine lake inside Kakaban Island hosting millions of stingless jellyfish (four endemic species, including Cassiopea and Mastigias), unusual gobies, and sea snakes. Snorkel-only (no scuba permitted to protect the ecosystem). Depths 1-8 m; after a short jungle walk carrying gear, drift through clouds of pulsing jellyfish that have lost their stings due to isolation from predators.
