Metridium Fields
Monterey Bay, California, United States
A dense aggregation of giant plumose (Metridium farcimen) anemones covering the outer sand and boulder field beyond the Coast Guard breakwater — typically reached as a compass navigation dive from San Carlos Beach at around 18-26 m. The white anemones blanket the bottom in drifts; wolf eels, cabezon, and resident lingcod share the boulders. Advanced navigation site, often done as a single-tank boat dive out of Breakwater.
