Mine Shaft Cave
Poor Knights Islands, Northland
The cave walls support communities of encrusting sponges, bryozoans, and small anemones adapted to low light. Grey moray eels thread through crevices in the cave walls. The reef hosts two-spot demoiselle alongside eleven-armed sea star, with splendid perch cruising the outer slope.
