Hyndman Reef, near Safaga, Red Sea, Egypt

A 115-m roll-on roll-off passenger ferry that struck Hyndman Reef off Safaga, Egypt on the night of 14 December 1991 and sank within 20 minutes. Officially 464 deaths (some estimates higher due to overloading). Rests on its starboard side on sand at 32 m with the port side at 12 m. Regarded as a war-grave equivalent; many operators require a respectful briefing and do not permit interior penetration. Advanced certification required. Observed species include schools of lionfish, moray eels, and reef fish on the hull.
