Shaab Sheer
Shaab Sheer, Safaga, Red Sea, Egypt
A shallow patch reef ~30 minutes from Safaga — a large circular coral block rising from the sand floor at 20 m to a plateau at 5-10 m, ringed by a sandy slope with isolated coral bommies. Dense hard coral cover on the plateau: table corals, brain corals, and branching staghorn thickets. A macro photographer's site: pipefish, nudibranchs, leaf scorpionfish, and juvenile batfish in the bommie gardens. Resident hawksbill turtles are almost guaranteed. Suitable for all levels; typically calm with minimal current.
