Dolabrifera brazieri

Dolabrifera brazieri is a species of sea slug, characterized by its soft, elongated body typical of sea hares. This species can reach a maximum length of 15.0 cm. It is often found in intertidal zones, particularly in rock pools and beneath rocks, as well as in shallow subtidal areas on reefs and gravel substrates. The species is native to the South Pacific, with a distribution that includes southeast Australia. Divers may encounter this slug at depths ranging from 0 to 5 meters, where it typically resides in benthic habitats. As a herbivorous creature, Dolabrifera brazieri primarily feeds on algae. Members of the order Anaspidea, to which this species belongs, are generally simultaneous hermaphrodites, allowing them to reproduce effectively in their environments. Encounters with this species during dives can be quite serene, as they tend to move slowly and are often found in solitary or small groups, blending in with their surroundings. In terms of conservation status, Dolabrifera brazieri has not been evaluated by the IUCN, meaning its population status is currently unknown. However, divers can observe this species at numerous dive sites, indicating that it may be relatively common in its preferred habitats.
