Barracuda Point

Sipadan Island, Semporna, Sabah, Malaysia

A drift-dive corner on the northeast tip of Sipadan Island, Sabah, Malaysia. The reef wall drops to 600+ m. Most of the action occurs at 10-25 m. Named for the resident chevron barracuda school — thousands of individuals that form slow rotating 'tornado' schools rising vertically from the reef. Observed species also include schools of bigeye trevally, green turtles (dozens per dive), whitetip reef sharks, and grey reef sharks. Current can be strong; Advanced Open Water certification recommended.
