Caldera del Diablo is a remote bank dive well off Guanaja's eastern end. A local guide found it in the 1980s. Seamounts rise here from a bottom near 40 m to about 24 m below the surface. Nassau grouper collect on these banks to spawn. The gathering peaks around the full moons of January and February. A 1988 visitor saw hundreds of slow-moving groupers on one dive. Blacktip and bull sharks circled the reef during that dive. The groupers were missing on a dive one day earlier. This is a dive for experienced divers only. Current can run hard here. Seas can be rough. Divers have drifted apart from the group at this site. The boat tracks bubbles to collect divers as they surface. Past dives reached about 37 m and needed decompression stops. The Honduran Ramsar file lists the eastern bank as a known grouper spawning area. Plan the dive with an operator who knows the bank.
