Coconut Point
Apo Island, Negros Oriental, Philippines
Coconut Point sits on the northwestern tip of Apo Island, where converging currents earn it the local nickname 'The Washing Machine'. The dive runs along a sloping coral reef that steepens into a rock wall, broken by a sandy channel between two cliffs that offers a sheltered spot to pause and watch the blue. Current strength sets the tone: on lively days this is a fast drift better suited to experienced divers, while passing pelagics make the effort worthwhile. Expect schooling trevallies and blackfin barracuda, snappers and sweetlips along the reef, the occasional potato grouper, and sea snakes working the bottom. As part of the long-established Apo Island Marine Reserve, the site is dived under sanctuary rules with no reef hooks or gloves permitted and no night diving.
