East Wall

La Jolla Submarine Canyon, San Diego, California, United States

The eastern face of the La Jolla Submarine Canyon, reached by a long surface swim from La Jolla Shores. Divers drop onto a soft clay wall around 18 meters whose holes and crevices shelter sarcastic fringeheads, octopus, sheephead, rockfish and sheep crabs; visibility is often low, lending the canyon an eerie, prehistoric feel. Within the San Diego–La Jolla Ecological Reserve (no take).
