Inner Chase Reef
Chase Reef, Pacific Grove, Monterey County, California, United States
The Inner Reef of Chase Reef lies about 200 to 300 yards off Coral Street Beach in Pacific Grove, a line of rocky ledges and pinnacles running parallel to shore that steps down from around 30 feet to a sand bottom near 50 to 60 feet. Outlined by thick giant kelp, the rocks are carpeted in strawberry anemones, with shrimps, nudibranchs and small fish in the cracks and lingcod, cabezon and rockfish on the structure; curious harbor seals, sea lions and sea otters are regular company. Advanced divers can reach it by a long swim, but most diving here is from a boat. Within the Pacific Grove Marine Gardens State Marine Conservation Area (finfish only).
