Inner Pinnacles
Carmel Bay, California, United States
A several-acre granite pinnacle field in northern Carmel Bay, about three-quarters of a mile off Pebble Beach, where bull and giant kelp crown a maze of monoliths, gorges and stair-stepping mini-walls. The rock is encrusted with orange, pink and purple California hydrocoral, sponges and rose-spotted anemones; lingcod, cabezon and greenling are common, and schools of blue rockfish hang under the canopy. Exposed to swell and wind — a fair-weather, boat-access advanced dive.
