Rock Garden
Poor Knights Islands, Northland
A scattered field of volcanic boulders on the reef slope off Aorangi Island, arranged across a gentle gradient from ten to twenty metres. Each boulder functions as an independent micro-habitat, hosting its own community of sponges, hydroids, and encrusting organisms. The reef hosts common octopus alongside John Dory, with common dolphin cruising the outer slope.
