Beneath the kelp, the rock surfaces host gardens of jewel anemones and encrusting sponges in vivid colours. Rock lobster occupy available crevices, with some individuals reaching substantial size. Schools of banded wrasse share the water column with New Zealand fur seal, and sea perch patrol the perimeter.
