Black Rock North

Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, Sulu Sea, Philippines

On Tubbataha's South Atoll, Black Rock trades extensive coral cover for an exceptional abundance and diversity of marine life. A sloping plateau meeting steeper walls creates an ideal setting for both reef dwellers and pelagic visitors, and the relatively tranquil feel makes it a favourite for big-animal encounters. Currents can be strong and changeable, fuelling large schools of fish, steady shark activity, and occasional pelagics. Expect surgeonfish, rainbow runners, and sweetlips, with whitetip and nurse sharks resting under huge table corals, plus scribbled filefish, boxfish, leaf fish, and spiny lobster. Liveaboard access only; Advanced certification required.
