Ko-ok (Eiger Wall)
Tubbataha Reef, Palawan
Ko-ok features a broad, sandy-terraced reef top starting at about 3-8 m that slopes to around 18 m before dropping into a steep wall. The shallow plateau mixes flat coral with sandy patches and scattered bommies, while the wall is hung with large sponges and gorgonian fans. The site is famous for its massive fish shoals, including swirling schools of bigeye trevally and fusiliers. Other regulars include big-eye barracuda, dogtooth tuna, reef sharks, bumphead parrotfish, giant moray eels, and hawksbill turtles, with hammerheads on occasion. Currents are usually moderate but can strengthen during swells. Liveaboard access only; Advanced certification required.
