Malayan Wreck

Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, Sulu Sea, Philippines

A blend of natural and artificial reef on Tubbataha North Atoll, often called one of the park's more atmospheric sites for the moody silhouette of the wreck and the life sheltering around it. A gentle coral slope from about 5-10 m steepens into a vertical wall past 20 m, with the remains of the Malayan partially embedded in the slope between roughly 15 and 25 m. It rewards both macro and wide-angle work: morays in the wreck crevices, nudibranchs, shrimps, crabs, pipefish, and seahorses among the corals, plus schooling bannerfish, fusiliers, and anthias. The adjacent Malayan Wall brings reef sharks, giant trevally, dogtooth tuna, and barracuda. Liveaboard access only.
