Gorgonian Channel
Tubbataha Reef, Palawan
A steep, coral-clad wall on Tubbataha, lined with the large gorgonian sea fans that give the site its name, alongside whip corals and barrel sponges. The reef top breaks at around 10 m and the face plunges into open water, drawing pelagics in on moderate to strong current. Expect patrolling schools of trevally, barracuda, and snapper, with whitetip and grey reef sharks working the wall and green turtles grazing the reef. Manta rays are seen on occasion. Visibility is generally good, in the 15-30 m range. Liveaboard access only; Advanced Open Water certification required.
