Amos Rock
Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, Sulu Sea, Philippines
Also known as Southwest Rock and named after a park ranger, Amos Rock is among the most celebrated dives in Tubbataha, set off the northwestern tip of the atoll. It combines dramatic wall topography with lush coral cover, huge gorgonian fans, massive barrel sponges, and black-coral bushes. Currents flowing along the wall can range from a gentle drift to a fast ride, often turning the dive into an underwater flight past changing overhangs and crevices. Big schools of fish, frequent shark sightings, and rich coral gardens are the draw. Liveaboard access only; Advanced Open Water certification required.
